Setup and Usage - Amazon Alexa

  1. First, set up your Smart Shades device, follow the setup guide in the manual or go to www.somasmarthome.com/pages/support
  2. If your Smart Shades is already configured and working, confirm you're running the latest firmware version by updating your mobile app. Go to Play Store  and search for Smart Shades, see if there are any updates available.

  3. Install the updates.
  4. Make sure that your Amazon Alexa has been set up and configured.
  5. Plug your SOMA Connect into power using the power adapter included in the pack.
  6. Open Smart Shades app and select SOMA Connect from the left hand menu menu. Make sure your mobile device is next to the SOMA Connect unit while doing this.
  7. Select your preferred Wi-Fi network from the list (Same as the one where your Alexa is connected to)
  8. Enter your Wi-Fi password.
  9. Write down the SOMA Connect ID, you’ll need it in a later step.
  10. Open your Alexa mobile app or go to webpage alexa.amazon.com
  11. Login to your Amazon Alexa account
  12. Select “Skills”
  13. Search for SOMA Smart Shades
  14. Enable the skill
  15. Link the account using a dialogue box that appeared. If using a desktop, go to settings > Account linking.
  16. Enter the SOMA Connect ID that you wrote down before.
  17. SOMA connect has now been set up.
  18. To control the Smart Shades, try using the following commands:
    1. “Alexa, ask Soma to close/open the blinds/shades”
    2. “Alexa, activate Soma ”  
    3. “Alexa, ask Soma open/close the GROUP NAME”
  19. To control different groups you need to use the group name on the smart shades app.

Setup and Usage - Apple Homekit

  2. If your Smart Shades is already configured and working, confirm you're running the latest firmware version by updating your mobile app. Go to Apple Store  and search for Smart Shades, see if there are any updates available.

  3. Install the updates.
  4. Plug your SOMA Connect into power using the power adapter included in the pack.
  5. Open Smart Shades app and select SOMA Connect from the left hand menu menu. Make sure your mobile device is next to the SOMA Connect unit while doing this.
  6. Select your preferred Wi-Fi network from the list (Same as the one where your HomeKit is connected to)
  7. Enter your Wi-Fi password.
  8. SOMA connect has now been set up.
  9. Open the Home App and tap “Add Accessory” or the plus sign on top right corner and select “Add accessory” from there.
  10. Wait for the blind name you want to add to appear, then tap it. (it has the same name as in the Smart Shades app “Devices” tab (right hand side))
  11. If prompted:  “This accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with HomeKit”, press “Add Anyway”
  12. If asked to Add Accessory to Network, tap “Allow”.
  13. Enter the 8-digit SOMA Connect HomeKit code manually.  _ _ _ -  _ _ - _ _ _  
    (The code is found inside the paper manual.)
  14. After that you can add and edit the information about your accessory, like its name or the room it's located in. Siri will identify your accessory by the name you give it and the location it's in.
  15. Add any other Smart Shades devices in your home using the same HomeKit code following the steps 9-14
  16. To finish, tap Next, then tap Done.
  17. To control the Smart Shades, try using the following commands:
    1. “Siri, open/close shades”
    2. “Sir, raise/lower shades”
    3. “Siri, set my blinds to 50%”
    4. Are the shades in the “group name” open/closed ?
