Setup and Usage - Apple Homekit

  1. First, set up your Smart Shades device, follow the setup guide in the manual or go to www.somasmarthome.com/pages/support
  2. If your Smart Shades is already configured and working, confirm you're running the latest firmware version by updating your mobile app. Go to Apple Store and search for Smart Shades, see if there are any updates available. https://itunes.apple.com/mn/app

  3. Install the updates.
  4. Plug your SOMA Connect into power using the power adapter included in the pack.
  5. You can now see the red and green indicator lights blinking. Wait until the only the Red light is on and is not blinking anymore.  It may take anywhere between 30 sec to 5 minutes depending on how many Smart Shades you have and how good is the signal between the SOMA Connect and the Smart Shades.
  6. Make sure your phone is near the SOMA Connect and open Smart Shades app
  7. Select SOMA Connect from the left-hand menu. (Make sure that your phone is next to the SOMA Connect while configuring the device.)
  8. Select your preferred Wi-Fi network from the list. (Same as the one where your HomeKit is connected to)
  9. Enter your Wi-Fi password and wait until configuring is complete. There is no need to configure the Wifi again when using multiple phones/tablets.

  1. SOMA connect has now been set up and the Smart Shades app must be completely closed before proceeding to the next step.
  2. Open the Home App and tap “Add Accessory” or the plus sign on top right corner and select “Add accessory” from there.
  3. Select “Don’t have a Code or Can’t Scan?” > You can see a list of nearby accessories that you can choose from or you can enter the 8-digit SOMA Connect HomeKit code manually: 8-digit code can be found in the manual. and select from all the Smart Shades devices. The devices have the same name as in the Smart Shades app “Devices” tab (right hand side))
  4. If prompted:  “This accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with HomeKit”, press “Add Anyway”
  5. If asked to Add Accessory to Network, tap “Allow”.
  6. After that you can add and edit the information about your accessory, like its name or the room it's located in. Siri will identify your accessory by the name you give it and the location it's assigned in.
  7. Add any other Smart Shades devices in your home using the same HomeKit code following the steps 10-15
  8. To finish, tap Done.
  9. To control the Smart Shades, try using the following commands:
    1. “Siri, open/close shades”
    2. “Sir, raise/lower shades”
    3. “Siri, set my blinds to 50%”
    4. Are the shades in the “group name” open/closed ?

    Setup and Usage - Amazon Alexa

    4. Plug your SOMA Connect into power using the power adapter included in the pack.
    5. You can now see the red and green indicator lights blinking.     2. Open your Alexa mobile app or go to webpage alexa.amazon.com
    3. Login to your Amazon Alexa account
    4. Select “Skills”
    5. Search for SOMA Smart Shades
    6. Enable the skill
    7. Link the account using a dialogue box that appeared. If using a desktop, go to settings > Account linking.
    8. Enter the SOMA Connect ID that you wrote down before.
    9. SOMA connect has now been set up and the Smart Shades app must be completely closed before proceeding to the next step.
    10. To control the Smart Shades, try using the following commands:
      1. “Alexa, ask Soma to close/open the blinds/shades”
      2. “Alexa, activate Soma”  
      3. “Alexa, ask Soma open/close the GROUP NAME”

  3. Tap Account
  4. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the Google Account you linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, tap the triangle to the right of the account name.˅
  5. Tap Settings  Services tab  Explore .
  6. From there you can search for SOMA Connect app.
  7. When asked “ Before you can use Soma Connect, I need to link your SOMA Connect account to Google. Is that OK”, tap “Yes”
  8. Link the account using the SOMA Connect ID and press “Continue”
  9. SOMA connect has now been set up and the Smart Shades app must be completely closed before proceeding to the next step.
  10. To control the Smart Shades, try using the following commands:
    1. “Hey Google, ask Soma Connect to close/open the blinds/shades”
    2. “Hey Google, ask Soma Connect to open/close the GROUP NAME”
    3. “Hey Google, ask Soma Connect to set the blinds to 50%“
